GAPCAP
Shiteii City, An urbanist team based in Tokyo & Kyoto in Japan.
It's a project that we enclose cities in the bottles to visualize the gaps in interpretation in our daily lives.
We believe that there is a gap between a correct interpretation of the city and a kind of "unique interpretation" through creative and personal intervention.
By enclosing the favorite places in small transparent bottles, we will give possibilities to people's same interpretations of the city and their ways of intervention, and will make a society where their own ways of using the city.
When we stay our favorite spots and are ourselves, we finally feel that "we are alive". If we assume that we are living comfortably when the relationship between people and the place is tuned (Feeling like we are using the place with our own way), what percentage of our social activities can we say "we are alive?"
Despite the complexity of cities, the way people live in the city has become homogenized, making it difficult to interpret them in only certain ways. In addition, the means of recording urban life may be limited to only photographs and videos.
By using transparent bottles, We would like to present viewers with an opportunity to think about other lives, give them hints for living, and aim for a world in which they can live lightly amidst the complexity of the city.
We will make the various interpretation and intervention in cities to a public good. For that, we will establish the method of "Gapcap" as an archive of people's unique ways of multifaceted perspectives.
